This photo was taken at Rydal Water in the beautiful Lake District, using a 14mm lens to capture the wide expanse of the scene. The ultra-wide perspective allowed me to include both the wooden fence in the foreground and the sweeping hills in the background, creating a sense of depth and leading the eye across the image.

The calm waters of the lake mirror the moody, overcast sky, adding a reflective quality that emphasizes the peacefulness of the location. I loved how the fence’s reflection interacts with the water, creating a textured, layered effect that contrasts with the smooth reflections of the hills and trees further back. The autumn colors in the landscape—reds, greens, and browns—add warmth to the otherwise cool tones of the scene.

Using the 14mm lens allowed me to emphasize the drama of the clouds while still keeping all the elements of the scene in focus, from the vegetation in the foreground to the distant hills. It was an overcast day, but the diffused light helped bring out the natural tones without harsh shadows, making it a perfect opportunity to capture the tranquil beauty of this iconic Lake District location.
