I captured this photo of the Red Arrows flying over Southport Pier using a burst of shots with a high shutter speed to ensure I caught the perfect moment. As the jets soared into view during the Southport Air Show, I positioned myself by the sea wall, framing the pier in the foreground. With the jets moving at speed, and leaving vibrant trails of their signature red, white, and blue smoke, I knew timing was everything. By shooting in burst mode, I was able to freeze the jets’ motion crisply, capturing multiple frames in rapid succession. Later, in post-processing, I reviewed the series of photos to select the best one, where the planes were perfectly aligned above the pier and the composition felt just right. The contrast between the still, quiet pier and the dynamic, colorful display in the sky made this shot stand out, encapsulating the excitement of the day and the precision of the Red Arrows’ performance.
